The teachers are expected to report to their TSC County Directors starting January 4th when schools fully reopen so they get posted to their new stations.

The teachers will start at Primary Teacher II (job grade B5) at a salary scale of kshs 21,756 to a maximum of kshs 27,195 per month.

Deployment of P1 teachers

TSC also continues to issue deployment letters to qualified P1 teachers who applied for promotion in October this year as well as those who applied last year and were not posted.

TSC had advertised 1,000 promotional posts last year and did the same in September this year.

The 1,000 posts were primarily reserved for practising P1 teachers with degree and C+ at KCSE and C+ in two teaching subjects to teach in high school.

“Iam pleased to inform you that your application for appointment as a secondary school teacher II (T-Scale 7) has been successful, you are deployed to Nanighi Secondary School to teach Biology/Mathematics,” read a deployment for a teacher in Tana River county.

The deployed teachers will move to job grade C2 where they will earn a basic salary starting kshs 34,955 to a maximum of kshs 43,694.

The teachers will move to job grade C3 automatically after completion of three years under Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).

The teacher employer is issuing posting letters for teachers with science subject combination this is after it failed to do so last year where only teachers with art subjects gained.

The teachers will report to their new stations on January 4th when schools fully reopen for other classes.

TSC is planning to post all the qualified and deserving p1 teachers to secondary school in due time to help plug shortage brought about by 100% transition and bring staffing balance following introduction of the new curriculum.

TSC database shows that at least 6,347 primary school teachers have degree with C+ at KCSE and C+ in the two teaching subjects and qualify to teach in secondary schools.

TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia said the Commission will promote a total of 3,900 teachers this year.

The TSC boss said that some 55,000 teachers have been promoted this year and that 460 teachers have already been interviewed and will get promotion letters soon.

TSC extends Contract and enhances perk for interns

TSC has also extended the contract for the current serving intern teachers for a year.

“The Commission has authorized the extension of contracts for the serving teacher interns. This affects the teacher interns who were not recruited in the recently concluded recruitment process for regular teachers,” read a TSC memo.

TSC said the rationale for extension is because the internship programme was disrupted by Covid-19 pandemic which led to closure of schools in March 2020.

TSC had barred the current serving intern teachers from applying for the 6,674 advertised internship posts in December. This had raised queries on status of their current contract which is ending in this month.

However TSC renewed their contract for another year starting January 4th next year. The teachers will continue to work in their current station.

The employer has also increased their pay under the new agreement.

Primary school intern teachers will earn 15,000/- up from 10,000/- which they earned this year while Secondary school intern teachers will earn 20,000 up from 15,000/-.

However the teachers will renew their accident insurance cover for another year.

In addition TSC had advertised additional 6,674 internship posts in December.

TSC has invited applications from qualified candidates to fill 4,676 posts posts for Secondary Schools and and 1,998 posts for Primary Schools.

  1. Keep up the good job, our teacher service commission. I pray that the commission will fully systematically automate recruitment of teachers, such that the commission simply post teachers using their details and scores which are predertimed by academic qualification and period of stay since graduation.to avoid interviews which are sometimes corrupted in favour of principals favourite candidates. Tsc should also take note that most subject slot given to schools are not necessarily what the school need, but are enginered by school heads to seek for employment for their friends and money making ventures. Tsc should therefore come to the ground, determine the subject needs per school depending on the school population following tsc staffing protocol.
