KICD Approves Drop of 2 Compulsory Subjects Under Junior Secondary
The Kenya institute of Curriculum Development has finally approved removal of 2 Compulsory Subjects currently introduced in Junior Secondary school.
Learners joining Junior Secondary school in have been pursuing a total of 14 subjects with 12 being compulsory.
According to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development curriculum design for Grade 7, the learners take 45 lessons a week with each lesson covering a 40 minutes duration.
Following an outcry from the public, on claims of overburdening of learners, the KICD has finally approved the removal of Life Skills subject and Health Education subject from the curriculum.
According to the KICD, these 2 will no longer be offered to learners.
Equally all the learners are required to take one optional subject.

i) Visual Arts
ii) Performing Arts
iii) Home Science
iv) Computer Science
v) Other Languages (Indigenous Language, French, Arabic, German, Sign Language)
