TSC increases paternity, maternity leave days for teachers

INCREASED LEAVE DAYS

This is in line with 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

In Summary

• With the new changes, teachers will not assume annual leave even after taking maternity leave.

• The Teachers Service Commission has effected the new changes which have seen an increase in leave days.

 

Female teachers will now be eligible for 120 days paid maternity leave while male teachers will get 21 days paid paternity leave.

The Teachers Service Commission has effected the new changes which have seen an increase in leave days.

Previously, male teachers would get 14 days while female teachers would get 90 days.

This is in line with the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

It was signed by teachers unions, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Kenya Union of Post Primary Education(KUPPET), among other unions.

Teachers can now successfully apply for leave on the digital platform, a change from the previous manual application.

According to the manual dated November 23, 2021, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said the services fully transitioned on December 1, 2021.

“All teachers including interns to henceforth apply for leave using the online platform,” Macharia said.

With the new changes, teachers will not assume annual leave even after taking maternity leave.
