Cabinet Secretary for Education Professor George Magoha has issued a statement on the release of the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations
Speaking at Starehe Boys Center and School in Nairobi, CS said the marking of the test was over. CS said the results will be released when they are ready. He therefore warned kenyans to cease from the speculation when the results will be released. Below is the statement;
“The process of marking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examination which started three weeks ago officially ended today.
I take this opportunity to thank all the dedicated inspectors and the dedicated team of the Department of Education and the officials of the Teachers’ Service Commission who worked tirelessly to ensure that this work, done at 35 institutions across the country, is done well.
I would also like to thank the Department of Internal Affairs and Integration, led by CS Dr Fred Matiang’i, for providing teacher safety and examination documents during marking and the Department of Technology, Innovation and Youth Affairs, led by CS Joe Mucheru for providing competent data entry staff.
We must not forget the excellent services provided by all principals who plan to mark the tests at all institutions. Our decision to increase the number of marking centers this year has enabled us to meet the requirements for social exclusion in line with Department of Health guidelines.
Over the next few days, we will move on to the next level of processing the results of the complete marking exercise in the hope that we will release the results of the KCSE Examination as soon as possible.
Reopening of schools
As you are aware, the Honorable President Uhuru Kenyatta announced on May 1, 2021 that the opening of the Terms of Education for the Third Term of the 2020 Education Calendar will continue as planned.
Therefore, I wish to assure you that all primary and secondary schools will be reopened on Monday, May 10, 2021 for the Third Term, which will commence on July 16, 2021.
Pupils who are expected to report to their schools are those in PP1 and PP2, Grade 1 3, Grades 5 – 7 and Form 1 to Form 3.
I wish to emphasize that Grade 4 learners will stay home until July 26, 202 when schools will open in the First Term of the 2021 Education Calendar.
This is necessary because fourth graders were part of the first group of students who reopened in the first phase of the resumption of learning stages after the closure of COVID – 19 in October 2020.
We have received reports that some private schools are planning to repatriate Grade Four students and other groups that are expected to open on Monday. Such schools should stop the program and allow all public and private learning institutions to follow the prescribed calendar.
Strict measures will be taken against schools that open up to Grade 4 candidates. Grade 4 students must be allowed to study at home until they join Grade 5 on July 26, 2021.
The government has spent Ksh.7.5 billion on high schools before the schools reopened. We have also applied to National Treasury for an additional allocation of Ksh.13 billion to secondary schools and Ksh.2.8 billion to primary schools.
We are therefore therefore hopeful that schools will be adequately prepared to put in place compliance with the Department of Health’s guidelines for COVID – 19.
The ministry has already issued a circular to all sector officials to ensure that all schools are ready to receive students on Monday and that all are ready to follow in the footsteps of the Ministry of Health COVID – 19.
