Listed category of Teachers Will Not Be Employed In Next TSC Slots
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced plans to scrap the Primary Teachers Certificate Training PTE course ,commonly known as P1 certificate slots from 2024.
This is according to the TSC review of the laws governing the teaching profession , a plan that has which has raised mixed reactions from stakeholders in the sector.
According TSC, the entry qualification for teachers training,starts at the diploma level.
TSC is equally proposing that for one to become a teacher, the individual must have scored a C plain and at a minimum of a D+ in Mathematics and C – ( minus ) in English subjects.
TSC promised to present the proposal on review of teaching requirements in parliament upon agreement on the same with the education ministry.
The TSC defending this move has indicated that the new reforms in the sector is guided by the provisions of the constitution and a reference to recommendations of the presidential working party on education reforms.
This means that going forward, TSC may not hire teacher with certificate in primary education but instead it will shift its focus to those who have done a degree course .
The commission is therefore urging teachers employed using the above PTE Certificate to upgrade to a diploma to comply with the current CBC requirements.

A Diploma certificate in education currently is recognized as the minimum requirement for those joining teaching profession.
The commission further allows for post-training upgrade certificates incase one has finished an ECDE, PTE, DTE, BED, DIP ED, and SNE training programmes .
TSC proposes that the above teachers will be certified for teaching children in grades 1 to 3 as well as those from grade 4 to 6.
