TSC to Start Deployment of another Set of P1 Teachers To Teach In Secondary Schools

 

With the new junior secondary program, which will begin in January of next year 2023, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will assign primary school teachers as instructors.

 

This has occured after the Commission representatives discussed with teachers union representatives about the problem.

 

Mr.Collins Oyuu, the secretary general of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), is leading the current negotiations between the Commission and Knut representatives.

 

The comments is however,adamant that the teachers must fulfill the prerequisites before being assigned to secondary institutions.

 

 

 

 

The Knut is urging TSC to permit primary school instructors with a secondary choice degree but a C (simple) in the KCSE to instruct in junior high.

 

The Teachers Service Commision however says for teachers to be deployed to teach in junior secondary one must be :

 

i) A Kenyan citizen;

 

ii) Holder of a P1 Certificate;

 

iii) a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with 2 teaching subjects;

 

iv) Have attained at least C+ (Plus) mean grade at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent and C+ (Plus) or it’s equivalent in the two teaching subjects;

 

v) Be serving under Teachers Service Commission.

 

The Commision also said it will offer training to the teachers who will be deployed to teach in junior high school.

 

The junior secondary involves Grade 7, 8 and 9. The current Grade 6 learners will join junior secondary in January 2023.

 

Knut is in discussion with TSC on the Parliamentary recommendations which ordered promotion of teachers who upgraded their certificates
