The Teacher Internship Programme is a one year programme meant to equip and sustain competencies of persons entering teaching service. The programme targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions where their teaching experience will be enhanced through mentorship, coaching and exposure to practical teaching experience.

The Teachers Service Commission has sent message to teachers on internship notifying them to renew their contract. TSC boss Dr. Nancy Macharia says that teachers on internship whose contracts are to expire in December should renew them online.

TSC insists that the renewal will be done online and no hardcopies will be allowed. A total of 6000 teachers were employed on internship this year and were worried about their contracts. The Teachers Service Commission has assured them that their contracts will be renewed and that they should not worry.

The move by TSC to renew internship contracts is to avoid cases of teachers on internship being unemployed once their contracts expire. Dr. Nancy Macharia says that TSC website will be open next month for intern teachers to renew their contracts hence the need for regular checking of the website.

Also, TSC Chief executive officer CEO Dr Nancy Macharia further says that those teachers on internship who will fail to renew their contracts will cease to be on internship.
