Updated List of Teachers Recently Deregistered by TSC
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in July 2022 deregistered 73 teachers, effectively stopping them from acting as teachers in any capacity.
According to a statement issued by TSC head Nancy Macharia, teachers are prohibited by law TSC Act (2012) from teaching students at any school in the country.
The Commission announced, by publishing the numerous case numbers with the names of the tutors, that the tutors were being investigated for a variety of gross misconduct offenses.
Any person who violates the terms of the Act by employing a teacher who is unregistered is subject to one of the following penalties: a fine of not less than Ksh100,000 or imprisonment for a time not exceeding two years, or both.
In an effort to guarantee effective service delivery, TSC has recently been harsh with shady teachers.
In October of 2021, the Commission took disciplinary action against 43 teachers and consequently deregistered them from their system . Additionally, TSC dismissed fifty-two teachers in May 2021 for indiscipline-related incidents, and in November 2020, more than fifty teachers had their names removed from the Register of Teachers.
Compared to the 71 tutors who were deregistered in the full year between 2017 and 2018, the new number suggests an increase in the number of teachers at risk of losing their jobs.
