Litein and Tengecha High School Closed indefinitely following students’ Unrest

Litein Boys High School in kericho County has been closed indefinitely after students went on rampage sunday night.

 

According to the area chief Moses Mutai, the students protested over what they termed as high handedness of the school administration among other complaints.

 

Mutai said the students damaged several school properties including classroom and dormitory window panes, computers and assaulted some school watchmen.

 

He said the decision to close the school was arrived at by the school Board of Management and the officials from the Ministry of Education.

The chief revealed that the boys were forced to spend their night at the school playground and in the morning they were ordered to vacate the school premises.

 

Elsewhere, Tenges High School Students in Baringo Central on Sunday night trecked out of school in protest over what they termed as strict school routine.

 

 

 

The Over 1,000 students walked 80 kilometers from their school to Kabarnet town and finally assembling at Kabarnet stadium.

 

 

 

At some point the students were seen throwing stones to vehicles plying the Kabarnet -Kasoiyo-Tenges route at Kasoiyo Market where school buses were collecting pupils for school.

 

The irate students were protesting a change of school routines by the principal, in unison they chanted “principal must go” “principal must go.”

 

The closure of the two schools comes few days after Kipsigis Girls High School, Kericho Tea, Chemamul and Kericho High School were closed following cases of student unrest
