KNEC Issues new Directives on KCSE and KCPE examinations

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced a slew of steps aimed at ensuring that the national examinations (KCPE and KCSE) in 2021 follow the Ministry of Education’s exam schedule.

David Njeng’ere, the CEO of the Kenya National Examinations council (KNEC), confirmed that the council has begun educating teachers on how to mark the tests.

In addition, the administration would strictly follow the Ministry of Health’s directives on the Covid-19 epidemic to avoid further disruptions to the school calendar.

The KCPE exam will be held between March 4, 2022 and March 9, 2022, according to the Ministry of Education. Exams for the KCSE, on the other hand, will be held between February 28 and April 1, 2022.

Mr.David Njeng’ere revealed that 1,225,693 candidates have registered for the KCPE 2021 exams, while 831,026 students have registered for the KCSE tests this year.

In comparison to the 2020 national KCPE exams, this indicates a considerable rise in enrollment. There were 1,191,608 candidates who took the KCPE 2020 exam, which means that 34,085 more people will take the exam in 2021, a 2.86 percent increase from the previous year.

In addition, 78,424 additional students will take the KCSE in 2021, representing a 10.42 percent increase over the previous year.

This comes as the Ministry of Education intensified its controls to ensure a seamless transition and the return of all students to school.

Education CS George Magoha and education stakeholders have been conducting a door-to-door mop-up campaign to track down all students who have not yet been reported to secondary schools.

Primary school teachers will receive training as examiners in English Composition and Kiswahili Insha, while secondary school teachers will receive training in English, Kiswahili, Biology, Chemistry, History and Government, Agriculture, and Christian and Religious Education (CRE).

Once trained, the tutors will be added to the Kenya National Examinations council’s examiners database.
