According to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) through the Knec Examiners portal, teachers who took part in the supervision and marking of the 2022 KCPE and KCSE exams will have to wait longer for payment.
The payment plan for contracted professionals, including invigilators and supervisors, is set to start in June 2022.
Primary school heads earn a daily subsistence allowance of Ksh 500 for four days, while secondary school principals earn a daily allowance of Ksh 500 for 18 days.
The highest-paid supervisor and invigilator earn Ksh 12,510 and Ksh 9,860, respectively. However, KNEC does not pay deputy head teachers and principals who assisted during the examination period despite being present at the school.
According to Machogu, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) owes a total of two billion Kenyan shillings in unpaid debts at the present time.
Because of this, it has been unable to meet its financial responsibilities, which include making payments to examiners, contracted officials, and suppliers.
Machogu emphasised that in order for KNEC to pay its outstanding bills, the company requires more funding
Further, the cabinet secretary of Education made an appeal to the members of parliament, pleading with them to provide funding to KNEC so that it can pay these hired specialists.
Nevertheless, CS Machogu did not offer any concrete timeframes or dates in reference to when the examiners will be paid for their work.
