2,400 Senior Teachers up for promotion following TSC Announcement

The Teachers Service Commission has announced promotions for over 2,400 senior teachers. This is in line with the Career Progression for Teachers (CPG).

Senior teachers include; Principals, Deputy Principals, Senior masters, Head teachers, Deputy Head teachers, Curriculum support officers, Senior teachers and Senior lecturers. The vacancies will cover all of the above mentioned as stated by Secretary Dr. Nancy Macharia.The commission’s plan to recruit more 1,300 secondary teachers, senior masters, deputy principals, primary teachers, senior teachers, deputy head teachers and head teachers in line with CPG for teachers in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) and hard to staff areas.

Those to be recruited include; 53 chief principals, 51 senior principals, 49 principals, 33 deputy principal I and 15 deputy principal II, 233 deputy head teacher II, senior teacher I and senior teacher II respectively.

“Interested candidates, who meet the required qualifications should submit their applications through the online TSC portal so as to be received on or before September 28. Manual application will not be considered,” said Macharia in a public notice yesterday.

Intern teachers
TSC also invited applications for recruitment of 1,995 intern teachers. The posts mentioned by Dr. Macharia include 1,038 for primary and 957 for secondary schools.
Intern teachers are required to upload valid copies of letter of appointment to the current grade and responsibility, certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations as well as clearance certificate from Higher Education Loans Board, Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission, Credit Reference Bureau and Kenya Revenue Authority.

In a public notice, Macharia said, “The teacher internship is a one year program meant to equip and sustain competencies of persons entering the teaching service.”

Macharia said that intern teachers attached to primary schools will have a monthly salary of Ksh.15,000 while those in secondary schools will receive Ksh.20,000, which will be paid subject to statutory deductions, where applicable.

After completing the internship, teachers will be awarded a certificate.

The following are the requirements for intern teachers;

  1. Applicants must be registered with TSC
  2. Must be a holder of p1 certificate for primary school teachers
  3. A minimum of a diploma in education certificate for secondary school teachers.
  4. Original academic and professional certificates and should not have been in previous employment with TSC as a teacher on permanent terms.

Intern teachers must be ready to work in any part of the country as TSC will be randomly posting them in any part of the country. They must also have their personal accident cover as TSC will not cover them during the internship period.

Once the online application is done, a merit list for intern teachers will be generated by county directors between September 28th- 30th.

The county selection will then follow from October 8th-15th and the final list will be presented to TSC for final vetting. After this, there will be vetting and handling of complaints at county level between October 21st- 29th.

Later, between November 15th- 19th, there will be signing and issuance of internship agreement and offer of internship letters. The interns will then report to schools on January 3, next year
